Dan-and-Louise-DeRusseau

LD Arabians, owned by Dan and Louise DeRusseau, breeds only Straight Egyptian Arabians. Currently we provide a home for six Straight Egyptian Arabian mares and their foals. We’ve raised all of our broodmares from a young age until they were ready to start breeding. We were very fortunate to have Shawn Crews from Arabians LTD. help us select our foundation mares.

Our foundation broodmares are out of some of the finest World Class Straight Egyptian mares in our lifetime such as Bint Bint Magidaa (now deceased), Rhapsody in Black and MC Alexsis. These mares have produced very few fillies and we are extremely fortunate to have owned the only two living mares out of Bint Bint Magidaa, one of only two mares produced by MC Alexsis, and a daughter of Rhapsody in Black. With such rare blood here on our little farm, we take on great responsibility to carry on these bloodlines for future generations.

In case you’re not familiar with the above named mares, Bint Bint Magidaa was a full sister to the great stallions Ruminaja Ali and Alidaar! Rhapsody in Black was the 2005 Egyptian Event Leading Dam and has produced numerous Egyptian Event winners. MC Alexsis was Reserve Grand Champion Mare at the Egyptian Event two years in a row as well as a US National Top Ten Mare!

All of our broodmares have been started under saddle by natural horsemanship methods. Much of that training is done by Louise herself. The youngsters are also worked with regularly on basic handling, trailer loading, and the necessary ground work preparation appropriate for their age. All horses on this farm are pasture raised in natural herd conditions. We feel it is important for their physical and mental health to be in as natural an environment as possible. For this reason, I believe we are giving our foals a very positive and solid foundation on which to grow. And as a result, you get “value added” foals when buying from LD Arabians!

As Dan and I are both retired from our careers with Whole Foods Market, natural and humane practices are very important to us. We fertilize our fields with “compost tea” which puts natural micro organisms back into the soil , creating lush grass pastures and cutting down on the weeds – therefore needing no chemical fertilizers or weed killers. This makes us feel confident that we are creating as healthy an environment we can for the entire herd – and ourselves for that matter.

Located just 12 miles from the Austin Bergstrom International Airport in Austin, TX, we welcome your visit to our farm at your convenience! We love to visit with fellow horse lovers!
